It never fails- when most people first see the thin, little belt that does all the hard work of making a big, heavy drum of wet clothes spin for over an hour of intense heat during their dryers regulated wetness modification cycle (aka timed dry), they can't believe it. How can something so small be so strong? Hmm... that sounds like a song! Seriously though, wouldn't a thicker, wider belt last longer? Manufacturers actually tend to make belts thinner- take Whirlpool's transition from the 349533 belt to the thinner 341241 version. It turns out, the strength of the dryer belt isn't in it's width but in its base material and long tension distribution. It may sound like I don't know what I'm talking about, because I don't, but there isn't much information online about this subject. It is a dark mystery shrouded like a hot drying machine secret that even aftermarket belt manufacturers won't reveal. Here's all Jason Industrial had to say about dryer belts: "Used in most clothes dryers, Poly-V belts offer gripping power and tracking ability at longer lengths to fit around the drum. A Poly-V belt is capable of running on small pulleys and can withstand backside tensioning or idler." What does that tell us about the thin belt design? That's right, nothing!
