ERP Exact Replacement Parts Flame Sensors

Gas flame sensors work by detecting the presence of a flame in the furnace's combustion chamber. This is a safety feature so the gas won't keep flowing into the furnace when it is not lit. A whole lot of gas in a small area like that is a recipe for disaster! The flame sensor is connected to the furnace's control board and as the gas ignites and a flame is established, the flame sensor comes into direct contact with the flame. When the flame touches the sensor's metal surface, it becomes conductive. This creates a small electrical voltage or current that flows through the sensor and completes the electrical circuit through the board. This signals the control board to keep the gas valve open, allowing the furnace to continue operating and providing heat. If, at any point, the flame sensor does not detect a flame (e.g., if the flame goes out due to a draft or other issues), the electrical current through the sensor is interrupted. When this happens, the control board interprets it as a potential safety concern, and it shuts off the gas valve to prevent gas from continuing to flow into the combustion chamber without a flame.
